Our March Duathlon is going to take us up to North County for a course designed by our former Prez Brian Long. We will have a 2.5mi. run, a 12.5mi. bike, and a 2.5mi. run to finish. Please see the details below:

Date: Saturday March 13th

Time: 8:45AM (The school has allowed us to use their parking area but will not let us on until 8AM. We will plan on being there right at 8AM in order to sign everyone in and get an 8:45AM start time. Enjoy the extra shut eye.

Location: Calavera Lake

Directions: From the 5 freeway, exit Cannon Dr. and head East. Cannon will turn left and turn into College Blvd. Stay on College and make a right onto the SECOND Tamarack Ave. Once you make that right, the parking lot will come up quickly on your right hand side. Transition will be in the parking lot (viewing the bike course will give you a good idea of where it is)

Run: The Run will be an approx. 2.5mi trail run up and around Calavera Lake. You will do this run twice, once to start the race and the other as the final leg of the race. As with our Black Mtn. Duathlon, anyone looking for a dead flat run will not be looking at this course. Get ready for some hills.

Bike. The bike will be an approx. 12.5mi course heading out and around Calavera Lake and the surrounding communities. THIS IS AN OPEN COURSE. Luckily, a good portion of it is through commercial areas so traffic should be minimal. Regardless, obey all traffic signals and helmets are mandatory. Please see the course below:

-Right onto College Blvd.
-Right onto Lake Blvd.
-Left onto Cannon Rd.
-Right onto S. Melrose Dr.
-Right onto Palomar Airport Rd.
-Right onto El Camino Real
-Right onto Cannon Rd.
-Cannon Rd. becomes College Blvd.
-Right onto Tamarack and back into transition

After the bike, you will complete the run course one more time before finishing.

We would love any and all volunteers who can make it to come out to this race. Ideally, having as many intersections covered as possible would be great. Bring your cowbell and wake up the neighbors!

I was able to get Dean Sprague, the TCSD Newsletter Editor, to slow down long enough to talk triathlon.  You have probably seen Dean at many TCSD events.  It is time we get to know this great guy who has done so much for the club over the years.

Duel in the Desert

The 11th annual Desert International & Sprint Triathlon will host the Triathlon Club Championship once again at Lake Cahuilla,  on March 7, 2010.  The Desert International and Sprint Triathlon will take place at the very unique and beautiful venue in La Quinta, CA., for a day of fun and great racing.  This event has become the kickoff event each year for many triathletes getting their season started and moving on to other goals throughout the year. This event has also become a favorite for the first timer and novice triathlete because of the calm lake swim, and flat and fast bike and run courses. AND hey, there is no better place to be in March,  than the Palm Springs, California area. Average temperature in March is 74 degrees.

TCSD members will be competing for the Triathlon Club championship based on Performance, Turnout and Spirit.  This event has crowned three different winners over the past three years. MultiSport OC, LA Triathlon Club and American Interbanc Triathlon Club. The winning club receives a Triathlon Club Championship Banner.
